ANNOUNCING
2011-2012 Retirement Planning Webinar Series
Presented by the United Way Retirees Association (UWRA)
Retirement Planning Webinar #1
Planning for Retirement in an Era of Uncertainty!!
September 27th, 1:00pm to 2:30pm ET
During these very challenging times, it has never been more important to plan ahead. This Webinar on the critical importance of lifelong retirement planning – the first in a series of retirement planning Webinars being offered by the United Way Retirees Association – provide tips on how to be better prepared for retirement, common retirement planning mistakes, planning ideas by age group, and lessons learned by United Way colleagues.
According to data compiled by the Federal Reserve and analyzed by the Center for Retirement Research at Boston College for The Wall Street Journal (February 2011), “The 401(k) generation is beginning to retire, and it isn't a pretty sight... The median household headed by a person aged 60 to 62 with a 401(k) account has less than one-quarter of what is needed in that account to maintain its standard of living in retirement.” While saving for retirement for most is difficult because of all of the competing demands, giving retirement planning a low priority is a big mistake.
Other research shows that knowledge about retirement issues is positively related to one’s attitude toward retirement; and that programs designed to boost knowledge improve preparedness by triggering advance planning activities.
UWRA’s series of webinars on retirement planning is being developed to address several of the key issues of concern that have been identified through the Association’s continuing work in this area.
Other planned Webinars in the series are outlined below. However these topics may be modified as UWRA receives additional feedback as to what United Way staff and retirees consider to be most important.
- How United Ways Can Help Staff Plan for Retirement– for CEOs & HR professionals
- Transition into Retirement/Life in Retirement
- Financial Planning
